New SuperSport Channel for East Africa launches on DStv‏

DStv’s SuperSport 9East, a dawn of a new era for East Africa
Eleven am CAT on Friday, will usher in a new era in East African television, DStv will launch the latest addition to their already bulging 26 SuperSport channels, East Africa’s very own SuperSport 9East.
SuperSport 9East will air in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Burundi, Congo, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Kenya and Uganda, screening the region’s local sport - mainly cricket, football, athletics, rugby and boxing giving East Africa it’s very own continental platform which will surely aid them in their systematic growth and development.
Available on the DStv Family, Compact, Compact Plus and Premium bouquets on channel 219, SuperSport 9East is a 24-hour channel which will screen live and delayed local football from the Kenya Premier League, Uganda Super League and the Cecafa tournaments complemented with their very own magazine programme.

“Over the past few years we have seen our coverage of sport in East Africa go way beyond our live broadcasting of the Kenyan Premier League, to the extent that we have not only covered football in Kenya but rugby, cricket and athletics too,” explained SuperSport’s Head of Africa, Gary Rathbone.
“And we have done likewise in Uganda, as well as covering football, yachting and marathons in Tanzania, football in Rwanda and of course East Africa’s exciting CECAFA football tournaments. Add to that the wide range of magazine and highlights shows featuring a range of sport from across the region and it becomes clear that creating a Supersport channel focused specifically on the East African sport was inevitable. And in many ways, we also see Supersport 9 East as a symbol of our commitment to sport – and all fans of sport – right across East Africa.”

While SuperSport’s East African football’s offering is still in its infancy stage and is expected to grow in the near future, highlights from all the football leagues available on SuperSport like the English Premier League, Zambian Premier League, Spanish La Liga, Nigerian Premier League, French Ligue1 and the Uefa Champions League and Europa League, will add to the high quality football available on the channel as it launches.

Kenyan rugby and cricket, athletics, motorsport, boxing and wrestling will also form part of the content available on the channel.
“SuperSport 9E is DStv’s way of giving back to the people of East Africa for their continued support over the years. Above all it is our way of investing in the people of this region through the many opportunities this channel is going to bring, from the direct job opportunities to the sponsorship opportunities sporting federations will enjoy as a result of increased television coverage, remarked Stephan Isaboke, MultiChoice Kenya General Manager.

SuperSport is soon to journey across Kenya, embarking on a massive manhunt for Bonga Boli, the World of Champions first Kiswahili commentator search. If you know your Kenya Premier League football and have a motor-mouth that can ramble on for 90minutes, you could found yourself in the SuperSport commentary box.
