More customers leaving big banks By Blake Ellis

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- New fees and poor customer service have sparked an exodus among big bank customers, many of whom switched to smaller institutions last year.

Meanwhile, small banks and credit unions lost only 0.9% of their customers on average last year -- a significant decline from the 8.8% defection rate they saw in 2010.

These smaller institutions were also able

to attract many of the customers who left the big banks. Over the course of last year, 10.3% of customers who shopped for a new bank landed at these smaller institutions -- up from 8.1% in the prior year.

New and higher bank fees at the nation's biggest banks led many customers to switch to smaller institutions over the past year, with about a third of customers at big banks reporting fees as the reason for looking elsewhere.

"When banks announce the implementation of new fees, public reaction can be quite volatile and result in customers voting with their feet," said Michael Beird, director of the banking services practice at J.D. Power and Associates.

Community banks team up to fight the megabanks

Checking account fees have been on the rise at the nation's biggest banks over the past year, and customer revolt against big banks really began to mount after Bank of America (BAC, Fortune 500) proposed a monthly fee for debit card use last fall.

Even though the bank later backtracked on its decision, the announcement led to a nationwide, social media-fueled "Bank Transfer Day", during which customers encouraged each other to dump their big banks for community banks and credit unions.

The report also found that many customers were already unhappy with the customer service at big banks, so when fees were announced or raised, there was even more of an incentive to switch institutions.

'I dumped my bank!'

"Service experiences that fall below customer expectations are a powerful influencer that primes customers for switching once a subsequent event gives them a final reason to defect," said Beird.

More than half of all customers who said fees were the main reason for switching banks also said they had received poor customer service at their prior bank, he said. To top of page

G20 chiefs: Europe needs a bigger financial firewall Ben Rooney

G20

Mexican President Felipe Calderon delivers a speech in December on the challenges facing the global economy.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- European leaders have taken "substantial" steps to contain the eurozone debt crisis, but they need to build a stronger financial firewall to ensure the safety of the global economy, top finance officials said Sunday.

Finance ministers and central bankers from the Group of 20 economic powers said global risks have eased following actions by European authorities to stabilize shaky government finances and restore market confidence.

In particular, the G20 ministers pointed to measures aimed at putting Greece on a "sustainable path" and actions taken by the European Central Bank, according to the group's official communiqué.

Euro area officials tentatively approved a second €130 billion bailout for Greece last week, and the ECB is set to offer a second round of low-cost, long-term loans for European banks on Wednesday.

But the G20 delayed a decision on the funding resources of the International Monetary Fund until after euro area leaders agree on the ultimate size of their financial firewall.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner said a "durable solution" to the crisis in Europe requires both sustained economic reforms "and a substantial financial firewall to support those reforms."

"European policy makers recognize the magnitude of the challenges ahead and will be reviewing additional steps in the weeks ahead," Geithner said in a statement.

Will oil prices kill the stock rally?

European Union leaders, who will hold a summit in Brussels later this week, are under pressure to increase the size of the €500 billion European Stability Mechanism.

The IMF has urged EU officials to boost the ESM to €1 trillion by pooling its resources with an existing bailout fund called the European Financial Stability Facility.

The goal of the firewall is to prevent the spread of a debt contagion to larger euro area economies such as Italy and Spain, which are undertaking difficult economic reforms. However, some of the eurozone's largest economies, including Germany, remain opposed to backing additional bailout money.

While the "derailment of the global recovery" is now less of a risk than it was a few months ago, "the world economy is still not out of the danger zone," said IMF director Christine Lagarde.

Lagarde noted that the IMF has recently announced plans to raise up to $500 billion to meet estimated funding needs of $1 trillion over the coming years. She said the money "would be combined with an equally credible, high quality and properly sized firewall at the European level."

Euro area leaders have already pledged €150 billion in additional IMF funding, and Japan has also signaled that it could contribute more.

The U.S. government, the largest contributor to the IMF, has said repeatedly that the multinational organization is sufficiently funded. The Americans argue that the IMF cannot substitute for a strong firewall in Europe.

Lagarde said she was "encouraged" following the G20 meeting, but added that "concrete decisions will await the reassessment by euro area countries of their support facilities, planned for March."

Iran's oil: Meanwhile, the G20 ministers also discussed the threat posed by rising oil prices to the global economy amid rising tensions between Iran and the West, according to Geithner.

In a statement, Geithner said he had a series of conversations with G20 members planning to "significantly reduce imports from Iran." He added that international pressure on the Central Bank of Iran has made it "harder than ever" for Iranian banks to "facilitate Iran's illicit nuclear activities or to help Iran evade sanctions."

The U.S. government and other G20 nations "are working together to help ensure there are alternative sources of oil from major producers to help offset reductions in exports from Iran," he added.

China's currency: Geithner also welcomed the steps that China has taken to increase domestic consumption and allow its currency to appreciate in the foreign exchange market.

He said the renminbi has appreciated by about 12% against the U.S. dollar since June 2010 after taking into account China's higher level of inflation.

"That's welcome progress, and we believe it is in China's interest and in the interest of the global economy for their exchange rate to continue to appreciate," said Geithner

World Bank to China: Free up your economy or bust By Annalyn Censky

sinopec.gi.top.jpg

A worker rides a bicycle at a Sinopec oil refinery in China. State-owned enterprises, like Sinopec, account for roughly 40% of the country's GDP, according to estimates.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- The World Bank and a Chinese think tank will have a stern warning in store for China's government on Monday: Transition to a freer commercial system, or else face an impending economic crisis.

As first reported by the Wall Street Journal, the "China 2030" report recommends China enact reforms promoting a freer econom. Those reforms include a major overhaul turning China's powerful state-owned companies into commercial enterprises.

The World Bank confirmed it will release the report Monday in Beijing.

The report is compiled by the World Bank and the Development Research Center, a research group that reports directly to China's State Council. According to the Wall Street Journal, it encourages China to also promote innovation, competition and entrepreneurship as a means of economic growth, rather than allowing growth to be primarily government engineered.

The world's second largest economy has been rising rapidly, averaging around 10% growth a year for the last three decades. Much of that momentum has come as China's rural population moves into the cities and as the government has funded massive infrastructure projects and retained a powerful influence over the country's biggest companies.

State-owned companies dominate China's banking, energy, telecom, health care and technology sectors. Overall, they account for about 40% of the country's gross domestic product, estimate Andrew Szamosszegi and Cole Kyle, who have researched the topic for the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission.

Their latest report to the commission puts it bluntly: The Chinese government has not "expressed an interest in becoming a bastion of free market capitalism."

Critics point out that China cannot keep up its rapid growth under this system forever. Emerging economies tend to start slowing when their economy reaches about $16,740 per capita, according to research by economists Barry Eichengreen of the University of California at Berkeley, Donghyun Park of the Asian Development Bank and Kwanho Shin of Korea University.

They suspect China will hit that point around 2015.

One big unknown surrounding the World Bank's report is its suggestion that asset management firms manage the oversight of state-owned enterprises.

China has four major asset management companies that it originally created to oversee bad loans spun off from its four major banks. Currently, they're 100% owned by the Chinese government. Unless the report says those firms should become independent, it's unclear how moving state-owned enterprises under their purview would be a major improvement.

"It could be just like moving chess pieces around," said Cole Kyle. "We have to wait for the details." To top of page

  • Police said they arrested the suspect a short time later in Chardon Township
  • One died and four were wounded in the shooting, law enforcement officials said

(CNN) -- Sorrow and disbelief replaced the chaos of Monday morning's school shooting in Chardon, Ohio, as residents and investigators tried to sort out what prompted a young man to openb fire on a table of students in the school cafeteria, killing one and wounding four others.

"I just can't believe it. I don't think it's real," said student Danny Komertz, who witnessed the shooting. "And I just, it kills me that I saw someone hiding, and now that someone is now dead."

The gunman, whom police said was a juvenile, opened fire in the cafeteria of Chardon High School just as the school day was getting started about 7:30 a.m., according to police. Witnesses said he walked up to a table of four students he may have known and began shooting.

Police said they arrested the suspect a short time later in Chardon Township, a community of about 5,000 people 30 miles east of Cleveland.

Police Chief Tim McKenna declined to identify the suspect, while school Superintendent Joseph Bergant said only that he was a student. But the the Plain Dealer newspaper in Cleveland cited student Nate Mueller, who was slightly wounded in the shooting, in identifying the suspect as student T.J. Lane.

The fatally wounded student was identified by the hospital that treated him as Daniel Parmertor.

"We are shocked by this senseless tragedy," Parmertor's family said in a statement released by MetroHealth Medical Center. "Danny was a bright young boy who had a bright future ahead of him. The family is torn by this loss."

Parmertor and two other wounded students were taken by helicopter to MetroHealth, hospital representative Shannon Mortland said in a statement. Mortland did not provide details on their conditions.

Two other students injured in the shooting, one boy and one girl, were taken to Hillcrest Hospital, spokeswoman Heather Phillips said. One was in serious condition, and the other was in stable condition, she said.

A student at Chardon High, Evan Erasmus, said the victims were Chardon students who attended a vocational school in Auburn, Ohio, and were waiting for a bus to take them there.

Police recovered a handgun and gave it to the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives for examination, that agency said.

A law enforcement source said the Geauga County sheriff's office and federal agents were executing search warrants in the case, but the official did not provide locations.

The Plain Dealer reported that Mueller said he was sitting with others at a table in the cafeteria when Lane approached them.

"My friends were crawling on the floor, and one of my friends was bent over the table, and he was shot," the newspaper quoted Mueller as saying. "It was almost like a firecracker went off. I turned around and saw (Lane) standing with a gun, and I saw him take a shot."

Mueller said he ran from the building, hid and called police, according to the newspaper.

Erasmus said he had just arrived in for his English class when the shooting happened.

"All of a sudden, one of the administrators got on the announcements and yelled, 'Lockdown!' " Erasmus said. "All of a sudden, all the doors started slamming. You could hear them slam. And we all turned off the lights, and we headed towards the corner."

Komertz said he heard a pop as he was walking with friends. He looked up to see a boy he did not recognize holding a gun, pointing it at a group of four students.

"He just fired two quick shots at them," Komertz said. "I saw one student fall, and I saw the other hiding, trying to get cover underneath the table."

Komertz said he started to run when he saw the gun but heard a total of five shots.

A student who identified herself as Victoria told CNN affiliate WJW that she heard a boom and turned to look into the cafeteria to see the student holding a silver handgun, standing 10 to 15 feet from a table of students.

"He started walking closer and closer. It was just like, 'Boom, boom, boom, boom,'" she said.

Multiple calls reporting a shooting at the school flooded into the police dispatch center beginning at 7:38 a.m., just as school was about to get under way, McKenna said.

After police got word from a dispatcher that a teacher had chased the suspect out of the school, officers went inside, soon followed by paramedics to help the injured students, McKenna said.

It was unclear exactly how the suspect was captured. Initial reports from police indicated that the suspect may have turned himself in to bystanders, but McKenna did not mention that during the brief midday news conference. Instead, he said officers "came up with the suspect" after starting a search shortly after the shooting.

"I want to assure the community of Chardon that we are safe," McKenna said.

Later Monday morning, investigators took over the school and were collecting evidence after students had been evacuated to nearby Maple Elementary School, said Lt. John Hiscox of the sheriff's office.

School administrators later called off school for the day, bringing in grief counselors Monday afternoon and scheduling a candlelight service at a nearby church Tuesday.

"We certainly hope those families know they're in our thoughts and prayers," said Bergant, the superintendent.

Parents eager to retrieve their children hurried to school buildings shortly after the shooting, forming long lines as school officials and police checked identification before releasing students. SWAT team members stood guard outside the school, allowing only a few parents inside at a time, enhancing what was a surreal scene for many.

"This stuff doesn't happen here at Chardon. Everybody's a little upset," said one parent who was preparing to pick up his daughter, a 10th-grader who had been evacuated to Maple Elementary School.

Parents and children frequently embraced and cried when reunited.

Teresa Hunt said she exchanged about 50 texts with her 18-year-old daughter, a senior at the high school. They began about 7:45 a.m., minutes after the shooting was reported. Hunt said her daughter hunkered down with her class inside their classroom, staying clear of the door. She said they could hear police officers running down the hall.

"They're terrified. She was crying. Her anxiety was way up," Hunt said.

"I did ask her, about the third or fourth text in, if she had any indication that something was going to break out," Hunt said. "She said, 'No, this was sudden. I had heard nothing.' Her friends had heard nothing also."

Erasmus said he believed that frequent lockdown drills and the quick response of school authorities helped keep the situation from becoming worse.

There is a long history of deadly violence on school campuses, ranging from incidents in which students stab each other or shoot staff members to mass murders like the ones at Virginia Tech and Columbine High School.

In April 1999, two teenagers, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, killed 12 students and a teacher before they killed themselves in the library at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado.

Gunman Seung-Hui Cho unleashed one of the deadliest campus attacks in American history at Virginia Tech in April 2007, killing 32 students and staff members. Two handguns were found near his body after the 23-year-old senior finally ended his rampage by killing himself.

Not all school killings are carried out by students. A 32-year-old man, Charles Roberts IV, took 11 girls hostage at a small Amish school in Pennsylvania in October 2006 and killed five of them. The other six were wounded before Roberts killed himself.

Rights activists demand Libyan militia turn over British journalists

(CNN) -- A militia in Libya is illegally holding two British journalists, refusing to turn them over to transitional government authorities and preventing international aid workers from visiting them, Human Rights Watch said Sunday.

The Saraya Swehli militia detained Nicholas Davies and Gareth Montgomery-Johnson in Tripoli on Tuesday, February 21, along with Libyans who accompanied them, said HRW consultant Sidney Kwiram from Libya's capital.

The Libyan transitional government has asked the militia to hand over the two journalists -- who work mainly for Iran's English-language state-run Press TV -- to government custody, but the militia has not complied, said Kwiram.

Some militias that established themselves to fight former dictator Moammar al-Gadhafi have remained intact and often allude government control.

A Saraya Swehli militia official told Human Rights Watch it detained the journalists and their Libyan colleagues because they found it suspicious that they were driving late at night and taking photos, according to an HRW statement. "Militia members later accused the two journalists of not having the proper immigration papers."

The Saraya Swehli militia operates in Tripoli but hails from Misrata, a city that took the brunt of the deadly military onslaught by Gadhafi loyalist troops on citizens who rose up against his rule. Militias from Misrata have practiced vigilante style justice and carried out acts of revenge in the wake of the revolution against those they believe had supported Gadhafi.

The humanitarian aid group Doctors Without Borders halted its work in detention centers in Misrata, Libya, in January 2012, because detainees were "tortured and denied urgent medical care."

Amnesty International has described "widespread torture and ill treatment of suspected pro-Gadhafi fighters and loyalists," a reference to those who fought for Gadhafi until his ouster and death.

Navi Pillay, the U.N. high commissioner for human rights, has highlighted difficulties the transitional government has had establishing central authority in matters of security and law enforcement since Gadhafi's removal from power.

After denying HRW access to the journalists three times despite letters by transitional government authorities to do so, a Saraya Swehli militia official told the rights organization that it did not have faith in the government, Kwiram said.

"Faraj Swehli and other militia commanders must understand that they cannot invent the law as they see fit, even under the banner of security concerns," Kwiram said. "They must turn over their detainees to the government. They are undermining the future of Libya as a country ruled by law."

VETERAN anti-apartheid icon Nelson Mandela was given a clean bill of health as he returned home today from surgery in hospital.

The 93-year-old had keyhole surgery to ease crippling abdominal pains.

South African president Jacob Zuma said: "The doctors have decided to send him home as the diagnostic procedure he underwent did not indicate anything seriously wrong."

Much-loved former leader Mandela had a "diagnostic procedure" on a "long-standing" problem, believed to be an ulcer, colitis or a hernia.

His Johannesburg hospital was not identified, to prevent well-wishers gathering.

Mandela, affectionately known in South Africa by his family name Madiba, spent 27 years in prison for fighting racist white rule.

But he has not appeared in public since the country hosted football's World Cup final in July 2010 and was hospitalised last year with a chest infection, causing widespread concern.

A spokesman for President Zuma said yesterday: "Madiba has had a long-standing abdominal complaint.

"The doctors are satisfied with his condition which they say is consistent with his age. He is not in any danger."

His granddaughter Ndileka Mandela said the family was not unduly concerned. But she added: "When a person of that age is admitted to hospital for a check-up you can never know.

Former South African leader Nelson Mandela, 93, has been admitted to hospital after doctors advised specialist medical attention for a long-standing abdominal complaint."President Jacob Zuma wishes to advise that former president Nelson Mandela was admitted to hospital today, the 25th February 2012," a statement from the South African presidency said.

Mandela has had a long-standing abdominal complaint and doctors feel it needed proper specialist medical attention, said the statement.

The statement wished Mandela a speedy recovery and assured him of the love and good wishes of all South Africans.

Nelson Mandela was discharged on Sunday from an overnight hospital stay after a diagnostic probe showed nothing "seriously wrong" with the anti-apartheid icon, South Africa's presidency said.

"Former President Nelson Mandela has been discharged from hospital following his admission yesterday, Saturday 25 February," President Jacob Zuma's office said in a statement.

"The doctors have decided to send him home as the diagnostic procedure he underwent did not indicate anything seriously wrong with him."

Mandela, 93, underwent a diagnostic laparoscopy, a procedure in which doctors probe the abdominal area using a tiny camera.

The beloved national icon has been living in his Johannesburg home where he returned last month from his rural childhood village in the Eastern Cape some 800 kilometres (500 miles) from the country's economic hub.

Shortly before his discharge was announced, Zuma said Mandela, who is known affectionately as Madiba, was relaxed and comfortable after his night's stay in hospital and was surrounded by his family.

"The doctors have assured us that there is nothing to worry about and that Madiba is in good health," Zuma said.

Defence minister Lindiwe Sisulu confirmed the laparoscopy and said it was to investigate ongoing discomfort.

"He's fine, he is recovering from anaesthetic and he is as fine as can be at his age. He is fine and handsome," Sisulu, whose ministry is charged with Mandela's health care, told a press conference in Cape Town.

Evolution Imeshindikana?

Wikiendi njema !!!

Emirates Sky Cargo Expands North American Operation

Boeing aircrafts above will operate daily from Dallas and Seattle to Dubai, providing businesses in the US the opportunity to connect with trading partners on Emirates SkyCargo’s network of more than 100 destinations.
DUBAI, UAE – 23rd February 2012 - Emirates SkyCargo, the freight division of Emirates, one of the fastest growing international airlines, is expanding its North American operation, increasing trade opportunities between U.S. businesses and its global network.
After the launch of daily passenger service from Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) and Seattle-Tacoma (SEA) International airports from 2nd February and 1st March respectively, Emirates SkyCargo will connect seven points in North America with trade prospects in more than 100 destinations worldwide.
“Our daily, non-stop flights from DFW and SEA will offer the fastest routes to the Middle East and beyond,” said Ram Menen, Emirates’ Divisional Senior Vice President Cargo. “We look forward to helping more American firms enhance their trade ties not only with the UAE, but also with markets in parts of South Asia, such as China, South Korea and Japan, and numerous points throughout Emirates’ extensive network in India and Africa.”

Cargo being transported on Emirates’ flights departing the U.S will be handled at the airline’s Cargo Mega Terminal, housed at its state-of-the-art hub at Dubai International Airport (DXB), a location within eight hours of two-thirds of the world’s population.

“When combined with the efficiency of one of the youngest fleets in the skies, unrivalled ground-handling facilities, and the very latest information technology at our Cargo Mega Terminal, Emirates SkyCargo is the ideal partner for Dallas/Fort Worth and Seattle-based businesses as they look to boost trade,” added Menen.

The airline’s expansion will help facilitate the growth of trade in the Seattle metropolitan area that produced US$ 24.2 billion in total exports and US$2.7 billion in United Arab Emirates exports in 2008 and 2009 respectively. Texas exports to the UAE also expect significant growth, having reached over $1.7 billion in 2009 - an increase of more than 192 per cent since 2002.*

Dallas/Fort Worth exports will include oilfield equipment, electronic parts, computers, cell phones, medical equipment and pharmaceuticals; heading for markets across the Emirates network, from the UAE to Australia, India and Uganda. Leading import commodities such as communications equipment, automotive components, apparel and fabrics will come from a range of markets including Taiwan, Japan, Sri Lanka and Saudi Arabia.

Exports on the Seattle route are expected to include fresh fruits and vegetables, electrical equipment and machinery, as well as medical equipment and aircraft parts, which will be transported to the UAE and surrounding destinations in the Middle East. China and South Korea will also be key trading partners, with leading imported commodities set to consist of electronic equipment, footwear and apparel.

Emirates’ DFW and SEA services join existing operations from New York (JFK), Houston (IAH), Los Angeles (LAX) and San Francisco (SFO), as well as Toronto (YYZ) in Canada, further strengthening trade ties between North America, the UAE and points throughout Emirates’ network of 121 destinations, which will be bolstered in coming months with a further three routes – Seattle (1st March), Ho Chi Minh City (4th June), Barcelona (3rd July) and Lisbon (9th July).

Operating a Boeing 777-200LR aircraft, EK 221 will leave Dubai daily at 0245hrs, arriving at DFW at 0905hrs from 2nd February 2012. The return sector, EK 222, will depart DFW at 1150hrs, arriving at DXB at 1220hrs the following day.

From 1st March 2012 EK 229 will depart DXB daily at 0950hrs and arrive at SEA at 1310hrs. EK 230 will depart SEA at 1710hrs, arriving at DXB at 1940hrs the following day. The aircraft serving this route will be a Boeing 777-300ER.

RIHANNA BACK WITH CHRIS BROWN

LOS ANGELES – Rihanna and Chris Brown are reportedly a couple again. She has forgiven him.

The two singers partied last night at Greystone Manor, West Hollywood club and left separately, but a mile down the road Rihanna’s driver pulled over and she reportedly hopped into Brown’s car..

Several people who were at the club last night tweeted that as far as they could see Rihanna and Chris making out with each other in the club. The protective order against Chris Brown — requiring that he have no contact with her was lifted a year ago, so Brown is free to hook-up with Rihanna again.

Rihanna was in Hawaii over the holidays, getting ready to be with Chris again:

According to a person close to Chris Brown, Chris feels that Rihanna is the love of his life and is thrilled to be back with her. Afterthe “incident” Chris felt that he destroyed all chances of a relationship with his soul mate he stayed away, but Rihanna apparently felt the same way about Chris. She reportedly told him, “You da one.” Now, the soulmates can be together again.

Rihanna and Chris are with each other all the time and when they are not together, they are exchanging IM’s and text messages.

Not everyone is pleased with this development. We’re told that Jay Z and Rihanna’s RocNation managers are furious that she’s back with Breezy. “We don’t like this one bit. Rihanna is making a big mistake,” said a source close to RocNation.

Will this be another happy Hollywood ending for our two pop-star lovers? Is Chris Brown a new man? Is Rihanna… crazy?

What do you think?

Maybe Rihanna will “Strip” for Chris:

RUGE, SUGU SASA DAM DAM!

A woman in love? Smitten J.Lo kisses her toyboy in the street... days before they enjoy a romantic getaway with her children

Jennifer Lopez has only been dating dancer Casper Smart for a month.

But there's no doubt the singer/actress is smitten with her toyboy after they enjoyed a public kissing session in the street.

The PDA session came just days before Smart accompanied Lopez and her children for a Thanksgiving family holiday to Hawaii last weekend.

And in photos that will undoubtedly upset her estranged husband Marc Anthony, Caspar is seen bonding with twins Max and Emme.

Dancer Smart, 24, joined Lopez, 42, on a family holiday to Kauai, Hawaii for Thanksgiving last weekend along with her mother Guadalupe.

The vacation came just days after the American Idol judge was spotted visiting Smart as he rehearsed with singer Mike Posner.

The photographs were taken before they shared the stage at the American Music Awards.

Awkwardly, her estranged husband Anthony also performed at the star-studded ceremony, and was forced to watch his ex cavort on stage with her new man, who was her back-up dancer.

After the awards, Lopez and Smart were apparently openly affectionate to each other in her private booth at an after-party at the Greystone Manor Supperclub.

During their trip to Hawaii, Smart was seen getting to know her three-year-old twins as he played with them on the beach.

Curly-haired Emme looked like she was in fits of giggles as Smart held her upside down as they frolicked by the sea.

An eyewitness told Us Weekly: 'Casper was great with the kids. Casper twirled Emme and Max around in the water. The twins played tag and chased Casper.'

After their six-day Hawaii break, it is thought the twins are now in the U.S. with their father while Smart accompanies Lopez on a work trip to Morocco after she was photographed arriving in the North African country via private jet yesterday.

Although Lopez has only been dating Smart for a month, its thought they originally met in May, while she was still married to singer-songwriter Anthony.

In October, she said her priority was to protect her children in the wake of her marriage breakdown.

She told Glamour magazine: 'As a mom, and having children, right now they're my first priority.

'And because of them, I wouldn't ever comment on anything until I'm in a serious relationship again.

'It would just be confusing for them and it would be unfair. And so at the end of the day, it's about them.'

And she said any new relationships she would embark on, she would try to do so privately after learning from her past public romances.

She explained: 'I think to give something a chance, to really get to know somebody, you want to do it out of the public eye. You know the media - they want to rush everything.'

However, fans of the singer know J.Lo is prone to rushing head-first into romances.

She and Marc Anthony wed in June 2004 after just four months of dating, with their romance starting just weeks after the actress called off her engagement to Ben Affleck.

Lopez famously dated her Gigli co-star Affleck immediately after her second nine-month marriage to back-up dancer Cris Judd broke down in June 2002.

Prior to Judd, she also has a stormy two year relationship with rap mogul Sean 'Diddy' Combs and before that a year-long marriage to Cuban waiter Ojani Noa.

Meanwhile, new photographs have emerged of Lopez enjoying a passionate kissing session with her younger lover.
